How Click Tracking Works

Learn how SPRL records and tracks every click.

Overview

Click Tracking is the foundation of SPRL Analytics. Every time someone clicks a shortened link or scans a QR Code, SPRL securely records the interaction and transforms it into actionable analytics.

Rather than simply counting clicks, SPRL analyses visitor information, campaign details, device data, locations, referrers, and traffic quality to provide meaningful insights into your marketing performance.

Good to Know:
Click tracking starts automatically when visitors access your SPRL links or Dynamic QR Codes. No additional setup is required for standard analytics.

How Click Tracking Works

Every visitor interaction follows a series of processing steps before appearing in your analytics dashboard.

Step Description
1. Visitor Clicks A user clicks a shortened link or scans a QR Code.
2. Request Received SPRL receives the request and identifies the destination.
3. Visitor Analysis Available information such as device, browser, operating system, location, and referrer is analysed.
4. Traffic Validation The request is evaluated to identify suspicious or invalid traffic before reporting.
5. Visitor Redirected The visitor is redirected to the destination URL.
6. Analytics Updated Processed information becomes available in the analytics dashboard and reports.

What Information Is Collected?

Depending on the visitor and available request data, SPRL may record analytics such as:

Information Purpose
Click Time Shows when the visitor accessed the link.
Campaign Associates the click with a marketing campaign or tracking folder.
Country & City Provides approximate geographic reporting.
Browser Shows which web browser the visitor used.
Operating System Identifies the visitor's operating system.
Device Type Indicates whether the visitor used a desktop, tablet, or mobile device.
Referrer Shows where the visitor came from, when available.
Traffic Quality Helps distinguish valid traffic from suspicious activity.

Traffic Validation

Not every click represents genuine user activity. SPRL analyses incoming requests to help identify unusual or suspicious traffic before it influences your reports.

Traffic validation helps improve the reliability of your analytics by reducing the impact of non-genuine activity on campaign reporting.

  • Enable Server-to-Server Event Tracking for conversion reporting.
  • Investigate unexpected spikes in click activity.

Troubleshooting

My click count hasn't increased

Ensure your link is active and has received new visitor activity. Also verify that you're viewing the correct campaign and date range.

I expected more clicks

Review your campaign filters, sharing channels, and traffic sources. Reports only include recorded visitor activity for the selected period.

Why are some clicks not included?

SPRL analyses traffic quality to provide more meaningful analytics. Some activity may be identified as suspicious or invalid and handled accordingly during reporting.
