Custom Domain FAQs

Frequently asked questions about branded domains.

Overview

This article answers the most frequently asked questions about using custom domains with SPRL. It covers domain setup, DNS configuration, verification, SSL activation, branded links, and general domain management.

If you are setting up a custom domain for the first time, reviewing these FAQs can help you avoid common issues and complete the process successfully.

Good to Know:
Most custom domain issues are related to DNS configuration or DNS propagation. Once your domain has been verified and SSL has been activated, no further setup is normally required.

General Questions

What is a custom domain?

A custom domain is your own domain or subdomain that is used to create branded short links instead of using a generic short URL.

Why should I use a branded domain?

Branded domains improve brand recognition, increase trust, and provide a more professional appearance when sharing links.

Can I use my existing domain?

Yes. You can connect an existing domain or subdomain by configuring the required DNS records.

Do I need to register a new domain?

No. You may use an existing domain that you already own or register a new one if preferred.

Setup Questions

How do I add a custom domain?

Navigate to Dashboard → Custom Domains, select Add Custom Domain, enter your domain, and follow the DNS configuration instructions provided by SPRL.

Do I need access to my DNS provider?

Yes. You must be able to add or modify the DNS records for the domain you want to connect.

Can I use a subdomain instead of my primary domain?

Yes. Using a dedicated subdomain such as go.example.com or links.example.com is recommended when your primary domain already hosts a website.

Can I connect more than one domain?

Yes. Multiple custom domains can be managed from the same SPRL account, subject to your account or subscription limits.

Verification Questions

How is domain ownership verified?

SPRL automatically verifies your domain after detecting the required DNS configuration.

How long does verification take?

Verification usually completes after DNS propagation, which typically occurs within 24 hours.

Why is my domain still pending?

Pending status generally means DNS propagation is still in progress or the DNS records cannot yet be validated.

Can I manually verify my domain?

No. Domain verification is completed automatically after the required DNS records are detected.

SSL Questions

Does SPRL provide SSL?

Yes. SSL activation begins automatically after successful domain verification.

Do I need to install a certificate manually?

No. Manual SSL installation is not required.

Why is HTTPS not working?

HTTPS becomes available only after domain verification and SSL activation have completed successfully.

Can I use my branded domain before SSL is active?

It is recommended to wait until HTTPS has been activated before sharing branded links.

DNS Questions

Question Answer
Do I need to update DNS records? Yes. DNS configuration is required before verification can begin.
Can I change DNS records later? Yes, but unnecessary changes may delay propagation.
How long does DNS propagation take? Typically within 24 hours, depending on your DNS provider.
Should I keep changing DNS while waiting? No. Allow propagation to complete before making additional changes.

Managing Domains

Can I remove a custom domain?

Yes. Domains that are no longer required can be removed from your SPRL account.

Can I manage multiple domains?

Yes. Multiple branded domains can be configured and managed from a single account.

Can different campaigns use different domains?

Yes. Many organisations assign different branded domains to different campaigns, brands, or regions.

Do all domains require verification?

Yes. Every custom domain or subdomain must complete its own verification and SSL activation process.
