Create a Temporary Link

Create links that automatically expire after a defined condition.

Overview

Temporary Links allow you to create secure short URLs that automatically expire based on one or more conditions. During creation, you can configure an expiry date, password protection, maximum clicks, inactivity timeout, and other options to control how the link is accessed.

This guide walks you through the process of creating your first temporary link using SPRL.

Good to Know:
You can combine multiple security options on a single temporary link. For example, create a password-protected link that expires after one day or after 50 clicks.

Before You Begin

Make sure you have the following information ready:

Requirement Description
Short Domain Select the branded domain that will generate the short URL.
Destination URL The webpage visitors will be redirected to.
Expiry Settings Choose one or more expiry conditions.

Steps to Create a Temporary Link

  1. Open the Temporary Link tab.
  2. Select your preferred Short Domain.
  3. Enter the Destination URL.
  4. Optionally specify a Nested Route.
  5. Select the desired Slug Type.
  6. Choose the Expiry Date & Time or use one of the quick presets.
  7. Optionally enter a password.
  8. Optionally specify the maximum number of clicks.
  9. Optionally set the inactivity timeout.
  10. Click Create Temporary Secure Link.

Field Reference

Field Description
Short Domain Select the branded domain that will appear in the short URL.
Destination URL The final webpage where visitors will be redirected.
Nested Route Create organised URL paths for better structure.
Slug Type Select how the short link keyword will be generated.
Expiry Date Specify when the link should automatically expire.
Password Protect the link with a password.
Max Clicks Limit how many times the link can be opened.
Expire After Inactivity Automatically expire the link after a period without any visits.

Using Quick Expiry Presets

Instead of manually selecting a date and time, you can choose one of the available presets.

1 Hour One hour from creation.
6 Hours Six hours from creation.
1 Day Twenty-four hours from creation.
3 Days Three days from creation.
7 Days Seven days from creation.

Optional Security Features

Feature Benefit
Password Protection Restricts access to authorised visitors.
Maximum Clicks Automatically disables the link after the specified number of visits.
Expire After Inactivity Removes access if the link remains unused for the configured period.
Expiry Date & Time Automatically expires the link at the selected date and time.

Troubleshooting

The link expired sooner than expected

Review all configured expiry conditions. A temporary link becomes unavailable as soon as any configured expiry condition is reached.

Visitors cannot access the link

Confirm the destination URL is correct, the link has not expired, and the correct password is being entered if password protection is enabled.

The link is no longer accepting clicks

The configured maximum click limit may have been reached.

The link disappeared after inactivity

The inactivity timeout has expired because the link was not visited within the configured period.
