SMS Personalization with Variables

Increase engagement using dynamic variables.

Overview

SMS personalization allows you to send messages that include customer-specific information, such as a name or other approved fields. In SPRL, personalization works together with your Contact Groups and DLT-approved SMS templates.

Because SMS content in India is regulated through the DLT platform, personalization is limited to the variables approved within your registered DLT template. The final message must comply with the template approved by your operator.

Good to Know:
Personalization is available only when your approved DLT template contains variables. The number and placement of variables are controlled by your DLT-approved template.

How Personalization Works

Personalized SMS campaigns combine information stored in your Contact Group with the variables defined in your approved DLT template.

During campaign creation, SPRL automatically replaces approved variables with the corresponding contact information for each recipient.

Using Personalization Fields

When creating a Contact Group, you can choose which fields should be stored for each contact.

Field Typical Use
Contact No Recipient mobile number.
Full Name Recipient's full name.
First Name Recipient's first name.
Last Name Recipient's surname.
Email Address Additional contact information.
Location City or location details.
Custom Fields Additional fields created for your Contact Group.

DLT Template Requirements

Before sending a personalized SMS campaign, ensure that your DLT template has been approved with the required variables.

Requirement Description
Approved Template Your SMS template must be approved on the DLT platform.
Approved Variables Only variables included in the approved template can be personalised.
Matching Data The imported contact data should correspond to the approved variables.
Template Compliance The final SMS must remain consistent with the approved DLT template.

Before Sending a Personalized Campaign

  1. Create a Contact Group with the required fields.
  2. Import contacts containing the corresponding data.
  3. Use an approved DLT template that supports variables.
  4. Verify the campaign before sending.

Best Practices

  • Keep contact information accurate and up to date.
  • Use only approved DLT templates.
  • Ensure your contact data matches the variables defined in the approved template.
  • Review your campaign before sending to a large audience.
  • Update Contact Groups whenever recipient information changes.

Troubleshooting

Why can't I personalise my SMS?

Your approved DLT template may not contain personalization variables, or the required contact information is not available in your Contact Group.

Can I add new variables while creating a campaign?

No. Variables are determined by your approved DLT template and cannot be added during campaign creation.

My personalized message is rejected

Ensure your campaign content matches the approved DLT template and uses only the approved variables.
