SMS Marketing

Transactional vs Promotional SMS

Understand the differences between transactional and promotional SMS.

Overview

SPRL supports both Transactional SMS and Promotional SMS. Choosing the correct message type is important because each category has different purposes and must comply with TRAI's DLT regulations.

When creating an SMS campaign, you must select the appropriate Message Type and use an approved DLT Sender ID (Header) and approved DLT Template for that category.

Good to Know:
Your DLT Sender ID, approved template, and selected Message Type must all belong to the same SMS category. Using an incorrect combination may result in your SMS being rejected.

Understanding SMS Categories

The two primary SMS categories available in SPRL are Promotional and Transactional.

Message Type Purpose
Promotional SMS Marketing campaigns, offers, discounts, product launches, announcements and promotional communication.
Transactional SMS Important service-related information such as OTPs, account notifications, order updates, payment confirmations and booking information.
